There are four methods which are used to clean carpet:

  1. Hot water Extraction method also known as “Steam Cleaning.”

  2. Dry Method

  3. Bonnet Cleaning

  4. Carpet Shampooing

Hot water Extraction method:

For many reason’s especially for appearance, and the removal of stains, dirt, and allergens is done through several methods. Clean carpets are usually recognized by many to be more visually pleasing to the eye and healthier than poorly maintained carpets. This type of method uses equipment that sprays heated water, sometimes with added cleaning chemicals, on the carpet. Then the water is vacuumed up, along with any dislodged and dissolved dirt. Many recommend professional hot water extraction because it is the most effective carpet cleaning method which also provides a deeper clean. Extraction is, by far, the most important step in the hot water extraction process. Since the hot-water extraction method uses much more water than other methods like bonnet or shampoo cleaning, proper extraction and air flow are critical to avoid drying issues such as mold growth and browning of wool fibers.

Dry Method:

This type of method has been growing significantly with our clients due to their very rapid drying time, a significant factor for 24 hour commercial installations who are open 7 days a week. Carpet is thoroughly vacuumed with a machine or by hand and is treated with a dry material and is worked into the carpet with a machine. The amount of time the pretreatment dwells in the carpet should be less than 15 minutes, due to the thorough carpet brushing common to these "very low moisture" systems, which provides added agitation to ensure the pretreatment works fully through the carpet.

Bonnet Cleaning

Bonnet cleaning is a minimum moisture carpet cleaning method This method is used with a floor machine or buffing machine with an absorbent bonnet attached, that is immersed in a carpet cleaning solution that is scrubbed with a rotating motion. As it moves over the carpet, the agitation causes dirt to be absorbed into the cleaning pad. The cleaning solution used with bonnet machines uses optical brighteners which polish the cut fibers of the carpet, making the carpet appear brighter and cleaner.

Shampooing:

This method called, “shampooing” usually involves more water causing a longer drying time. This method can be done with a carpet machine which scrubs a cleaning solution into the carpet with a brush while extracting dirty water back into the machine.
